DW Ramblings

Hello! This blog post has been simmering away for a good while. I must admit, the title kinda makes it sound like I’ll be giving this all-knowing critique or something, but I just wanted to call it something cool. Also, I feel bad for sending my friends 20-minute-long voice notes about things I’ve watched or read or listened to, so writing this blog post will save them from my rants – at least for a little while!   The following mix of culture – books, movies, podcasts, albums, fashion – has had such an impact on me that I wanted to try and communicate it through my lil blog. As much as I love YouTube videos where they rank different things and sort them into different tiers or give them a score out of 10, I don’t want to do that with the selection in this blog post. I could go on for ages about the arbitrary nature of ranking or the inherent bias when a score is given to something; also, I’m not sure how necessary a score is, especially when talking about art. Hello. I’m writing again! Well, I suppose I never stopped writing; it was mostly college stuff I had to write. Writing again like this feels weird. Like brushing the dirt off an old bicycle and trying to go for a spin on it. During college, I’ve had to do visual and audio assignments, and – finally – I’ve realised that it’s writing that I care for the most. And, dare I say, I even have a slice of talent for? Don’t get me wrong, I love love love listening to and watching other people’s podcasts or videos, but if I have to do it myself I find I get flustered with the recording of it or the setting up of it or the downloading/uploading/reloading of it. I dunno, I just find that writing something, letting it come from my brain and out through my fingers, typing typing typing – changing and deleting bits as I go, obviously – is the best way of getting my thoughts across.   As I’m typing this, I’m realising that some people might not even know about the other blog I have.
